Cameron courts continuing success

WENTWORTH A Grade midcourter Ash Cameron has been a gun for her undefeated side.

But she said it’s her off-court successes as a junior that have been the “highlight of my year”.

As well as coaching the Wentworth 17 & Under for the past couple of years, this year Cameron had the opportunity to take on the coaching role for the Sunraysia squad in the same age group as well.

There she led them to a runners up in the Netball Victoria Northern Association Championships.

“It was really fun and it was a really good learning experience for me,” Cameron said.

“It’s exciting for Sunraysia netball, they are a really great group of girls and there is lots of talent within that 17s squad.

“I was a part of the SFNL squad a long time ago, so it was just really nice to be able to kind of give back and spend some time with the younger generation of girls.”

On the court, Cameron and the Roos continue to set the standard for the SFNL A Grade competition.

Yet she said it’s not something that comes easily.

“We work really hard for (our success), it’s not something that is kind of just given to us,” she said.

“I think a lot of people probably assume that we go into each game thinking that we are going to win, which is definitely not the case.”

Cameron attributes a lot of the team’s successes to the atmosphere at the club.

“We have got a really great culture at Wentworth as well, so I think that is kind of like our starting point to turning the pages and doing what we have been able to do,” she said.

“You know when you get to training it is going to be hard, but everyone is really supportive of each other and we all just want each other to be better.

“It’s just a really nice environment to be around.”

As the round 12 Netballer of the Round, Cameron receives $150 from Mildura Golf Resort.
