Wickets for Wyld as Aussies win

MILDURA Settlers’ Richie Wyld and the Australian over-40s team have made a convincing start to their International Masters Cricket campaign, winning their first three matches to sit atop the group A table.

Held in Cape Town, the Australian’s made light work of the United States, Namibia and Canada but will face their biggest test in their next match-up against England, who are also undefeated.

Wyld has seen limited opportunity with the bat but been a key contributor with the ball.

Against Canada, he claimed 3/34 in nine overs, while for the tournament he’s taken four wickets at an average of 18.50.

At this stage, a semi-finals berth looks likely for Australia, but a win against England would guarantee it.

Australia’s final game is on February 25 against Zimbabwe.

The top two teams from each group qualify for the finals and the grand final is scheduled for March 1.
