JUNIOR netballers in Ouyen will enjoy after-school snacks after Ouyen United Kangas netball club received a community grant to promote healthy eating.
Ouyen United were one of two groups in north-west Victoria to receive the $2000 grant, along with Swan Hill City and District Netball Association, as part of a Woolworths ‘Pick Fresh Play Fresh grants program.
Ouyen United club president Caitlin Vine said the club “was lucky” to receive the grant thanks to a nomination by one of their volunteers, and will provide fresh fruit to kids attending after-school training.
“These kids often come straight from school to (netball). So they’re hungry, they’re tired,” she said.
“We just want to give them a good bit of support and some energy.
“A lot of our volunteers often bring fruit and snacks. And they’re already donating so much of their time and resources.
“It’s fantastic for the grant to help us out to provide (fruit) for our kids.”
Ouyen United was one of 20 Victorian clubs, and 75 across Australia to receive the grant.
