O’Rourke’s star continues to rise

NICHOLS Point women’s cricketer Annie O’Rourke has been chosen as the Northern Mallee Sports Star of the Year February nominee.

The all-rounder was named as the Most Valuable Player of the Sunraysia Cricket Association (SCA) this past season as well as being picked as captain of the Team of the Year.

Her achievements saw her enter the running to be the 2021 Merbein & District Community Bank 97.9 Triple M Northern Mallee Sports Star of the Year.

O’Rourke is a massive advocate of women’s cricket in Sunraysia and a huge supporter of junior girls’ cricket. She sets an example for her team and the whole competition around how to play in the correct ‘spirit of the game’. O’Rourke is also a highly respected member of the SCA.

As the February winner, O’Rourke received a voucher sponsored by Sportspower and is eligible for the Northern Mallee Sports Star of the Year award, to be held on February 18, 2022, at Club Da Vinci, Mildura.

Mallee Sports Assembly (MSA) is now calling for May nominations. Forms are available from the MSA office at 101-101a Ninth Street, Mildura, or via www.malleesportsassembly.org.au. For more information call 5021 3464.
