Tennis back for Easter

MILDURA Lawn Tennis Club (MLTC) president Reg Arney is looking forward to having the annual Easter tournament back.

The world-class grass courts are alive each Easter, bar 2020, as local and visiting players battle it out for top honours.

While numbers look slightly down on previous years, Arney said the quality of play should still be high tomorrow and Sunday.

“It’s good to have something going this year,” he said.

“At this stage we’re maybe down about a third on numbers from 2019, but we’ve got quite a few locals playing this year. The weather looks magnificent as well so hopefully it’s all going to be good fun.

“I think there are still a few people who aren’t travelling as far from home this year which could have an impact. I think a tournament at Maffra has well over 100 people competing, and being closer to the city that might have an affect.

“We’re hopeful of getting a few more entries and hopefully a few people coming along as well.

“Obviously the rowing regatta will be on as well, and it’s only a short walk away if people want to come and watch some quality tennis.”

Club curator Shane Moritz has the lawn courts in good condition ahead of the weekend’s play.
