IT’s been mixed results for Sunraysia’s representative cricket sides during their Junior Country Week campaigns against Swan Hill.
A strong Sunraysia under-15 squad earned a 4-0 clean sweep over the host association, however Swan Hill under-17 squad had the same result in their favour, while they also won the three-game under-13 series 2-1.
All players however have gained valuable experience during the annual three-day tournament.
In the under-15s, Sunraysia won both one-day games by chasing down the required total, winning by six wickets and eight wickets respectively, while their Twenty20 victories came via 24 and 32 runs.
Irymple’s Paddy Connelly led the way with the bat across the week scoring 114 runs at an average of 38, with a top score of 42 in the opening match.
Elijah Weinert also impressed with 63 runs at a 31.5 average.
Irymple’s Jimmy Milsom was on fire with the ball claiming nine wickets at 5.4 with a best of 4/15, while Gol Gol’s Mitch Munro continued his great recent form with eight scalps, including 4/3 and 3/11 in the T20 victories.
Merbein’s Korban Griffiths and Gol Gol’s Cooper McDowell each also took six wickets.
During the under-17 series, Mildura West’s Riley Cox was Sunraysia’s top scorer with 48 and was their second highest wicket taker with five scalps.
Mildura Settlers’ Nate Kiel led Sunraysia bowlers with six wickets and Tempy’s Kyle O’Brien finished with five.
For Swan Hill, Wandella’s Flynn McKnight led all scorers with 69, while Les Cooper of Calder United was the star bowler with 12 wickets.
It was a closer contest in the three-game under-13 series, with Swan Hill taking a 2-1 victory.
Mildura Settlers’ Lachlan Aldridge was the best of the Sunraysia batters with 64 runs while Mildura West’s Oliver Hobbs took a team best six wickets.
Elijah Curran of Northern Razorbacks had a big all-round week for Swan Hill, top scoring with 103 runs and taking six wickets of his own.
