Where did you love of music come from?

I have always loved music and I have always loved singing, with my parents always playing songs on the radio. At a young age I didn’t have the confidence to perform but it was always a dream of mine.

It was once I first wrote a song for my Nan and she organised for it to be recorded, that I realised it was something I really enjoyed. I was really fearful but at the point I decided I wanted to conquer that fear.

Since conquering your fear and joining and performing with various bands and duos over the years, what have been some career highlights or memorable performances?

Performing at the River Rockfest in 2017 with my band that was pretty exciting, performing as the support act in my duo, for Adam Brand at the Coomealla Club last year, that was pretty cool but honestly the most moving was for my new single How Do I Say Goodbye to be played at someone’s funeral. That was the absolute highlight, I can’t even describe it in words. It is just so moving and that is my motivation to keep writing music and share it with the world.

What was the inspiration behind How Do I Say Goodbye?

This song was written for my Pa to play at his funeral in 2009. It was a song that everyone was touched and moved by it but at the time we had been more focused on the loss of my grandfather instead of my songwriting.

How did you feel ahead of the single release at the Mildura Relay for Life on Saturday and what response has it received?

Beforehand I was really quite nervous but I was so excited as well. Afterwards it was such an amazing time, many came to support me in the release.

There was a lady, who I didn’t know came up to me afterwards and hugged me and she was crying and said “thank you so much,” it’s moments like that, that makes all of this worth while and that is exactly why I released it.

Since then I have had people contact me, tell me their stories and tell me how the song relates to them. The response has just been huge, it’s amazing.

Ahead of Relay for Life, the single was released on iTunes on Wednesday and on Thursday it was sitting at number eight on the singer-songwriter chart.

I didn’t even ever dream it would hit the charts, I didn’t expect it at all. I looked to humour myself and when I found it I was completely blown away.
To get to number eight is just incredible.

What are your future plans?

I am just so excited, years ago I wrote quite a few songs so before I write anymore I want to release those. An EP is definitely on the horizon so I am so excited to get that started.

How Do I Say Goodbye is available to download from iTunes and Spotify.
