OUYEN sent a clear message to the rest of the competition that they are serious contenders for the Sunraysia bowls Division One flag when they dismantled the Irymple Suns in round 4.
Janet Vallance led the charge, taking out Murray Fazulla’s rink 30-10 to set the Two Blues on the road to victory. Steve Simmonds got over Matt West 21-19 in a see-sawing match, while Tom Hogan kept his “heroes” on song to maintain his undefeated run, but could not cover Vallance’s rink demolition. Ouyen 70 (10) to Irymple 54 (2).
Mildura opened their account for the season with an all-rinks win over Workers. Mark Eckel defeated Roger Bray 31-19, Chris Mitchell got over Ken Job 27-15 and Keith Sharman maintained his rink’s unblemished record with a 25-20 win over Ian Pollock. Mildura 83 (12) defeated Workers 54 (0).
Coomealla continued their good run with a win over Merbein by seven shots. Shawn Fullerton took a 28-23 win over Rod Taylor for the Hawks, while Brandon Tyers narrowed the Hawks’ margin with a 25-22 win for the Cannons. But it was Mark Deakin who recorded a 31-22 win over Graham Newey that cemented the Cannons’ win. Coomealla 79 (10) defeated Merbein 72 (2).
Division One ladder: Ouyen 39, Irymple 32, Coomealla 24, Workers 22, Mildura 20, Merbein 7.
In Division Two, Nangiloc maintained their good form with an all-rinks win over Merbein 83 (12) to 55 (0). Toby Moore kept his unbeaten record intact to top the skips table after round four.
Mildura had a close match against Workers, with the Magic getting the points thanks to a solid performance by Jon Underwood’s rink of Ken Yeowart, Peter Ellis and Graeme Young winning 34-21 over Darren Cordwell. Mildura 82 (10) defeated Workers 70 (2).
Red Cliffs took the points over Irymple when Michael Clifford’s rink recorded a 29-17 win over Graeme Phillips. The Tigers 63 (8) defeated the Suns 61 (4).
Division Two ladder: Nangiloc 36, Mildura 33, Red Cliffs 28, Irymple 27, Workers 14, Merbein 6.
Division Three saw games go pretty much to plan. Ouyen at home defeated Euston 99 (12) to 46 (0). Rod Poole’s rink led the way with a 45-11 win over Phil Cattanach.
Underbool at home to Irymple fell short of the task when Ian Kellett fired his rink of John Harmer, Noel Hiscock and Susi Dusting to a 35-15 win over Col Lockett. Irymple 86 (10) defeated Underbool 62 (2).
Mildura made a Lazarus-like comeback to defeat Workers 71 (10) to 59 (2). Ian Livingston’s rink of Wally Grembecki, Rowan Kolpin and Joe Dimasi trailed 1-18 before finding a forward gear to record a 30-22 win over Keith Russell.
Division Three ladder: Irymple 34, Ouyen 32, Workers 26, Underbool 26, Mildura 16, Euston 10.
Division Four has Wentworth on top the ladder after a solid 87 (12) to 46 (0) win over Irymple at the Cauldron. Ivan Behsmann’s rink of Trevor Page, Rodger Smith and Graham Smith set up the win for the Steamers with 31-11 win over Ivor Minney’s rink.
Coomealla were too good for Red Cliffs winning 85 (10) to 75 (2). Ian Gibson’s rink of Raelene Jenkins, Frank Dart and Carol Ross starred for the Cannons with a 39-19 win over Lance Sharman.
Mildura recorded a good win at Euston 76 (10) to 65 (2). Simon Robertson’s rink of Dale Presley-Barwick, Kent Curran and Colin Barber recorded a 29-16 win over Glenn Scott to get Magic a win.
