Sunraysia Tenpin set to get rolling

PEOPLE with a bit of spare time can now head to Sunraysia Tenpin.

The popular bowling centre has reopened but won’t be able to cater for as many people as it had hoped.

“As of Friday last week we were going to be allowed 40 people, but after the weekend we’re back to 20 so it’ll be interesting to see how we go,” owner Rob Garioch said.

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews announced on Saturday restrictions would not ease across the state due to the number of COVID-19 cases in Melbourne.

Although pubs, cinemas and gyms were still able to reopen from Monday, they were restricted to 20 people.

Mr Garioch said Sunraysia Tenpin closed its doors three months ago and found out only on June 15 that the centre was classified as sport and exercise.

“We just had no idea what was going on,” he said.

“Initially they didn’t know if we were sport and exercise, entertainment and culture, a social gathering, or in with restaurants, pubs and nightclubs.”

Mr Garioch said it was good to hear the centre was classified the same as gyms, which meant it could reopen, but it would be tough to so with only 20 people.

The centre has recently had a full deep clean and new cleaning protocols are in place.

Customers will now be asked to leave their hired shoes and balls in one area when they finish their game and staff will come and clean them.

Mr Garioch said since announcing the centre would reopen it had received a lot of phone calls and support through social media.

“Our league bowlers are all keen to get back — the smaller ones can but our three main leagues can’t, so it makes it a bit difficult.”

Mr Garioch said he was expecting a lot of interest from people during the upcoming school holidays but stressed the importance of calling and booking a time.
