MERBEIN South Cricket Club is going pink on Saturday.
The club has, over the years, looked to give back to a cause.
This year, committee member Larry Cavallo said it was decided breast cancer and support charity the McGrath Foundation would be the beneficiary with a women’s day at Chaffey Park when the club’s First Division hosts Mildura West in the SCA.
“I bought up the McGrath Foundation, to get the ladies involved a bit more – cricket is a bit blokey at times,” Cavallo said.
“Most of us blokes have known someone who has been affected by (breast cancer) as well.
“We’re just going to have a bit of a ladies’ day and then lead into the night and have families back for a dinner and have fun at the club, raising money along the way.”
The club has sold $20 tickets for the women’s marquee and will have Saturday dinner available for $10, with other fundraising and merchandise sales throughout the day.
“We’ll have some donation tins, the ladies are buying tickets for the marquee we are having set up for them, players throughout the day will get fines for indiscretions on the field and that will go towards it,” Cavallo said.
“A fair chunk of the dinner has been donated so a lot of the proceeds for dinner will go straight towards it.
“We are all going to wear pink hats for the day while playing – $10 from each hat sold goes straight to the McGrath Foundation.”
