COVID-19 bowls over Willowfest 2020

WILLOWFEST has been cancelled for 2020.

The leading Australian Cricket Club Championships in December, and September’s Veterans carnival were both called off this week as a result of COVID-19.

The 2020 event marks the first time since 1999 that Willowfest has not taken place in the days following Christmas and before the new year.

Willowfest president Anthony Telfer said it was a tough decision for the committee to reach.

“The issue is everything changes almost daily,” he said.

“About a month ago it looked like we were going to have the Veterans event, but that was pretty much stopped in its tracks once the restrictions came back in.

“The committee has made a commitment to host both the September and December events in 2021.

“The only other time when I’ve been part of Willowfest that it was cancelled was in 1999 when the millennium bug was in effect, and we saw the effect on the community for it not happening.

“We hope it can come back stronger for the community next year.”
