ROBINVALE Euston’s return to the Red Cliffs Cricket Association is “no flash in the pan”, according to club president Tom Lister.
After a 16-year-absence, the Rangers returned to the field with 10 wins in the 2021/22 home and away season and made the A Grade elimination final.
Now the community has thrown its weight behind the club and Lister said the generous support has ensured they will be around for a while yet.
“We definitely didn’t set any expectations on ourselves last season, so to be right in the mix was a great result,” he said. “We actually got a bit nervous towards the end of the season.
“This year was all about retaining players and the community support we’ve had has been unbelievable.”
While it has been frustrating to have their opening two home games of their season washed out, Lister said the team is prepared for the new campaign.
The Rangers are bolstered by the addition of former Mildura Settlers premiership skipper Braidyn Turner, who will bat at the top of the order.
Lister also suggested captain coach Jesse McGinty and opening batsman James Zappia could be in for big seasons.
“Jesse has been whacking the ball in the nets and has probably been training a good month or so longer than the rest of us,” he said.
“James showed some promise opening the batting last season and I think he is primed as well.”
If play goes ahead following more rain, the Rangers will face Fire Brigade at Quandong Park, while Tempy are at home against Millewa, and Cardross host defending champions Ouyen Rams.
