Country Week long list named

PREPARATIONS are still ongoing for Sunraysia Cricket Association’s return to Melbourne Country Week.

Following a two-year hiatus, Country Week returns from Monday, February 17 with the SCA aiming for glory in Division 2.

“We’ve had so many high-quality players jump on board, which is really pleasing to see,” coach Josh Berry said.

“We think we’ll have a great squad to take away, including a few of the English boys and a couple of younger players.

“We feel this could really help their development.”

In Sunraysia’s last tilt in 2020, the team went down in the Division 3 grand final to Bellarine after being sent in to bat on a wet day.

Sunraysia last won their division at Country Week in 2014, when they defeated Warragul in the Division 3 grand final.

Melbourne Country Week was not held in 2021 and 2022 due to COVID restrictions.

The final squad of 13 will be named following next Wednesday’s training session at Mildura Senior College from 6pm.

Initial squad: Matt Job, Nafis Shaikh, Jay Turlan, Justin Freeman, Liam Freeman (Coomealla Wentworth), Shac Thomas, Wade Hancock, Aiden Calarco, Luke Hickey, Adam Thomson (Gol Gol), Nick Giofre, Bryson Lush, Billy Phelan, Jarrad Armsden, Ryan Muir (Irymple), Hamim Miah (Merbein), Josh Bowyer, Josh Berry, Andrew Ross, Brad Thomas, Jayden Hunt (Mildura East), Harvey Ault (Mildura Settlers), Chris Williams, Charlie Walker, Greg Lewis (Mildura West), Shaun Mathews, Leigh Thomson-Mathews, Nick Blacker, Glen Bridson (Nichols Point).
