ONE of Sunraysia’s most anticipated cricket carnivals will be back in October.
The Mildura All Abilities Cricket Carnival will return for the first time since 2019 following the COVID pandemic and flooding issues last year.
The carnival provides people with disabilities the opportunity to play cricket with others of similar skills at a competitive level.
Organising body Mallee Sports Assembly, and employment network WDEA Works Mildura have helped facilitate the return of the event alongside Mildura Rural City Council and Mildura Settlers Cricket Club.
The carnival brings teams to Sunraysia from across the state. The 2023 system will allow for even more competition across similar skill levels through two divisions, a school and seniors competition.
Mallee Sports Assembly project officer Lachlan Giles said with the return of the carnival organisers welcome previous and new cricket players to take part.
“It’s competitive and importantly lots of fun, full of action and excitement,” he said.
“We would also like to encourage more groups to submit teams in 2023 to make this year’s event bigger than previous years.”
Mallee Dust Storm are regular competitors in the carnival and team member Luke Hudson can’t wait to play.
“I enjoy helping the other coaches out and helping the team out,” he said.
“We’ve been training on Monday afternoons practising for the cricket carnival.”
Chloe Baron of WDEA Works said: “We believe in inclusivity and fostering opportunities for individuals to thrive”.
Teams of eight players or more can register for the event, which runs on Thursday and Friday, October 19 and 20, at Mildura Senior College.
