THE Mildura Show has been cancelled for the second year running.
Organisers announced the decision to cancel the event, which was due to be held from October 14-16, due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis in both Victoria and New South Wales.
“It is with great sadness that for the second year running we will be unable to run the Mildura Show since its conception in 1947,” Mildura Show Society said in a statement on Friday.
“This announcement follows the recent cancellation of other events in the Sunraysia area, and agricultural shows in the greater region.”
Organisers said the Mildura Show Society was still planning to run some competition sections in a format adapted to the current situation.
“We ask that everyone uses the current lockdowns and restrictions to keep knitting, sewing, cooking, gardening, creating masterpieces to enter into these competitions,” the statement said.
“Updates to these competitions will be provided in due course, via our Facebook page and website.
“We will also look to organise another show bag event to allow families to purchase their show bags for the year.”
The society asked that all involved in the show be patient while it finalised cancellation details.
“It is deeply disappointing to reach this decision; however, it has been carefully evaluated and considered,” the society said.
“It is felt the position the society has taken is in the best interest of public health and the broader community.”
