MILDURA

PLACEGETTERS from the ladies’ Stableford competition on Tuesday were Margaret McGlashan as the winner on 36 points and Sherleen McGlashan was runner-up (35).

NTPS were: Bev Mathews (second, (1210) and Eily Raeck (12th, 432).

Top of the scoresheet in Saturday’s men’s event with 42 Stableford points was Bob Briggs, giving him a sound win in B Grade from runner-up Gary Smart (35) and  Dean Ralph (35).

Wayne Manley got the honours in A Grade with a win on 39 points, with runner-up Barry Pilgram (38) and Andy Keogh third (37). In C Grade the win went to Tony Beyen (39), followed by Mick Killeen (38) and Alan Wishart (37).

NTPs were: David Murray (first, 260), Michael White (second, 104, Steve Fumberger won the pig pin award – 420), Peter Palazzo (12th, 140) and a eagle for Trevor Riordan on the par-four sixth hole.

Wednesday was Stableford, where the day’s winners played through dust and gusty conditions late in the afternoon.

Greg Chalmers chalked up a victory in A Grade on 39 points over runner-up Rob Toms (37), and third was consistent placegetter Pilgram (36).

The B Grade winner was Alan Lay (38), closely followed by runner-up John Green (37) and Newton Morrison (35).

NTPs were: Wayne Brice (first, 60), Robert Young (second, 690), Jamie Lanyon (10th, 119) and Greg Rhodes (12th, 189).

Following a breakfast in the outdoor barbecue area on Australia Day, players set off for the popular Ambrose in fours event, with decorated carts and some Aussie attire to celebrate the day.

The winning Ambrose team on net 54.37 was Steven Fumberger, Bev Stone, Graeme Polkinghorne and Michael White.

On 57.25 was the second-placed team of Rob Toms, Phil Green, John Williams and Brad Fox.

NTPs for the women went to Kim Ingram on the second, Rhonda Young on the 10th and Sue Walmsley on the 12th and the men’s winners were Josh McAskill, S. Fielding on 10th and Andy Keogh on 12th.

Prizes for the best-dressed team on the day went to Val and David Whitelaw, Mabel Crouch and Mick Bacon.

WENTWORTH

WEDNESDAY’S chicken run was cancelled due to the dust storm but several players thought they needed practice. Say no more.

Thursday’s Stableford was won by captain Bill Slee with 35 points.

The runner-up was John Stephens with 32 points. He loves his big handicap.

The ball winners were Graham Clarke and Ron Moore with 30 points.

NTP went to Ged Chapman with 675cm on the second hole.

Mr Risky went to Tom Steitz with 21 points.

Chapman received three balls for his eagle two on the second from Sunday’s comp.

MERBEIN

PAUL Hollingsworth followed up last week’s game to shoot a +3 to record his second win in two weeks.

Ryan Teasdale also played well to be one under his handicap and record a win in Wednesday’s comp.

Wednesday: winner: R. Teasdale, 37 points. Runner-up: T. Fitzpatrick (35). Third: H. McGaffin (34).

Friday: Winner: K. Matulick (17). Runner-up F. Crouch (17).

Saturday: Winner: P. Hollingsworth (+3). Runner-up: B. Jones (+2). Third: McGaffin (square).

NTps were: Matulick (second, 495). M. Thomson (third, 480), B. Jones (sixth, 80) and R. Redman (eighth, 1300).

Coming events: Today: Stableford. Friday: Nine-hole twilight. Saturday: monthly medal stroke.

Also be advised that with warmer weather over this week’s competition days, an early-morning tee-off might get you in before the hottest part of the day.

With the Merbein Open only a few months away the club will be looking to do some work in preparation. There will be a list of jobs to tackle over the coming months posted on Facebook and a list at the clubhouse.

COOMEALLA

TODAY the men and women play Stableford.

Friday is medley nine-hole Stableford. On Saturday the men have stroke for their monthly medal and the women have Stableford.

Sunday the men and women have Stableford and next Wednesday is the same.

Last Wednesday’s men’s Stableford A Grade winner was Stan Prymke with 39 points from Ross Robertson (38), who had a countback against Peter Duscher.

The B Grade winner was Brad Mottram on 41 on countback from Pat Murphy, with Frank Geyer third (39).

NTPS were: Darren Murnane (third, 220),  Mark Lee (seventh, 135), Alan Scorer (11th, 301) and Aaron Blake (18th, 117).

The women’s Stableford winner was Ann Bowen on 39 points from runner-up Diane Morall (38).

NTPs were: Kate Murdoch (third, 4, and seventh, 176), Heidi Schultz (11th, 91) and Catherine Lanigan (18th, 222).

In Friday’s medley 12-hole Stableford for the President’s Port the winner was Ron Hunt on 24 points followed by Walter Schulz (22).

NTPS were: Ross Robertson (third, 46, and 11th, 91) and Troy Neville (seventh, 420).

Saturday was Stableford – the fourth round of Summer Cup for the men.

A Grade: Winner: Prymke (40). Runner-up: Greg Rhodes (38). Third: Craig Gursansky (38).

B Grade: Winner: Bruce Summerfield (37). Runner-up: Steve Morrell (37). Third: Tim Tullock (37).

C Grade: Winner: Ralf Wagner (41). Runner-up – Scott Connor (38). Third: Thorell Lees (38).

NTPs were: Bruce Summerfield (third, 285),  Justin McPhee (seventh, 269), Jeff Stewart (11th, 235) and Ivan McKenzie (18th, 422.)
In the women’s Stableford the winner was Adel Dal Corobbo (40) ahead of runner-up Lee Bottomley (38).

NTPs were: Bottomley (third, 25, and 18th, 44), Sue Arthur (seventh, 452) and Frann Sette (11th, 72).

Sunday’s medley Stableford winner was Edward Parker (42) from Steven Portelli (37).

NTPs were: Matt Bottomley (third, 610), Darren Bottomley (seventh, 210), Tony Finn (11th, 517) and Lee Bottomley (18th, 510).

RIVERSIDE

IT was perfect weather for the Australia Day  long weekend, with many avid golfers heading to the fairways to take advantage.
Monday of last week saw Noel Murray collect a win with a super score of 40 points. Bruce Liddell was runner-up after a countback against Jerry Stephens (both on 38).

NTPs were: Ross Curnow (seventh, 140) and Rob Arnold (18th, 281).

Tuesday’s nine-hole par event for the women was won by Marie Hudak with -4.

In the 18-hole comp, Pat Riordan made the win hers after battling it out with Wendy Dawson, both on +3.

NTPs were: Lyn Thompson (fourth, 1000), Roz Nash (seventh, 250), Ayse Jewitt (12th, 302) and Dawson (18th, 125).

It was Wednesday’s monthly medal for the men in two grades and Keith Willis was the overall winner (91/71).

In A Grade, France Wilmann grabbed the honours (87/72) but not before a countback against Peter Ellery (86/72).

John Orange has improved his game and he really shone in B Grade, coming away a winner on 106/71. 

Graeme Sievewright (98/72) had a tussle with Mark Luitjes and Mick Burke before he was announced runner-up.

NTPs were: Jon Slatter (fourth, 105),  Wilmann (12th, 420), Ken Upton (17th, 690) and Sievewright (18th, 590).

It was Stableford for the women on Thursday, with another countback needed to split the winner and runner-up. 

After both players finished on 36 points, Selma Mayne stepped into first place, followed by Tracey Coulson.

NTPs were: May Connolly (fourth, 1380), Selma Mayne (seventh, 950, and 18th, 150cm) and Coulson (12th, 90).

The medley nine-hole Stabelford on Friday attracted a field of 38, with Darren Woolfrey taking the win on an excellent 23 points in front of Rob Arnold (22).

NTPS were: David Williams (fourth), Ivan McKenzie (fifth and seventh), Paul Graham (sixth) and Peter Ellery (ninth).

Saturday brought with it yet another countback to determine the women’s Stableford winner.

Nora Paech used her luck to snatch this one over Sally Watson, both on 36 points.

NTPs were: Janet Luke (fourth, 310, and 12th, 172), Jewitt (seventh, 93) and Dawson (18th, 90).

Saturday also saw a Stableford for the men, with it being played in two grades.

A score of 39 points from Ellery allowed him to sneak in a win in A Grade in front of Tony Coppola (38), who came out the better after a five-way countback for runner-up. 

Tony Scullino, Glenn Goodall, Oscar Mannix and Simon Dale just missed the cut.

One of Riverside’s low single-figure players, Brad Steer, may not have landed a winning score but he definitely played three brilliant shots on the par-five 14th, coming away with an eagle.

NTPs were: Ken Hornsby (fourth, 85), Wagner (seventh, 430), Scullino (12th), Slatter (17th, 186) and Ned Klemm (18th, 500).

Jim Callaway played an exceptional game on Sunday in the medley Stableford, completing a round of 40 points and breezing in to win four shots in front of Coppola – after a countback against Andrew Diwell and David Whitelegg.

The only NTP came from Peter Ellery on the 18th (324).

Riverside’s Summer Open will be held on February 8-9. Contact the club to enter as fields will fill quickly.

RED CLIFFS

WEDNESDAY winner was Mark Wilson on 41 points from Rita Chase, on 36 points, on a countback from Ron Baird.

NTPs were: Andrew Wood (eighth), Graeme Duffy (12th), Paul Bamford (17th) and Mark Aitken (18th).

On Saturday Deb Hassell claimed A Grade with 38 points from Tom Minns (37) on a countback. 

The B Grade winner was Chris Chase on 39 points from Peter Knight (36).

NTPs were: Steve Farley (third), Christine Taylor (fifth), Kath Underwood and Max Pitt (eighth), Daryl Morgan (ninth), Jill Gleeson and Al Rayner (12th), Sue Johns and Mal Blagus (15th) and Michael Hogan (17th amd 18th).

Monday’s Australia Day Open Texan Stableford winners were Al Rayner, Nathan Riordan, Glen Riordan and Peter Lynch on a countback from Paul Bamford, Adrian Pike, Ben Talent and Mark Aitken.
