VETERANS

WHAT I want prospective new members to know is that one of the many advantages of being a member of the Sunraysia and District Victorian Golfers Association is the opportunity to play at all district courses during the year.

It is unique in that each month we play at a different course supported by the clubs. Each club has its own weekly veteran competition with district events being conducted on the first Monday of the month. An unusual situation occurred this week due to the Tristate tournament being held throughout the district.

On Monday, Mildura veterans were able to join the Riverside veterans because their club was the venue for a Tristate round. That meant a larger than usual field of 45contested the single Stableford event at Riverside.

It is example of clubs being prepared to support district players by providing reciprocal rights and is a great way to promote golf throughout the district. The support of district veterans is a way of encouraging seniors to participate in an activity that is beneficial to the players physical and mental well-being.

It’s like a men’s shed outdoors.

You are participating with like-minded colleagues playing in a competition for prizes, having fun, socialising and when finished sharing a meal and drinks. You can decide on your level of exercise by walking or sharing a cart. Our next district event will be held on Monday, June 7, at Riverside.

Come along and become involved.
