VETERANS

Next Monday the 20th of June is when the district veteran golfers travel down the Calder to Ouyen.

The local club is hosting their annual event a 4BBB stableford game. Although not technically an official district association fixture it is never-the-less a very popular day.

The players can expect a friendly welcome starting with a warm cuppa. Visitors are given extra time to make the trip with a later starting time of 10.00 so registration begins around 9.30.

The unique aspect of this round is that participants have the opportunity of playing on a real country course.

The recent rain has been good for the fairways.

The sandscrapes are the challenge for the visitors.

There is a real technique in the raking of them when putting and adjusting to them is the key to success.

There is always a local member to help out if required.

The trophies are another unique feature of the day. They are truly iconic local awards made from mallee root wood.

There is even a Narga award and a few who are returning this year are keen to ensure their name is not added to this trophy.

With plenty to attract competitors there is an expectation that there will be a good field in attendance. Those who have previous experienced the day agree that its a great occasion and would no doubt recommend it.

So get your carts loaded, your carpool organised and your partner ready and make the journey south next week. See you there.
