District golf round-up

Veterans

A little over a week ago the Robinvale Golf Club hosted the district veterans golf day. A total of 44 district players contested the annual Grattan Wood Single Stableford event.

The field was bolstered by four new members. Welcome to Mary Corcoran, Cath Remer, Leonie Cramp and Sue Goldsworthy. We also welcomed back Jerry Stephens. Local knowledge seemed to be an advantage with many locals and ex-locals performing well on the day. One of our new members emerged as our A Grade winner. Sue Goldsworthy scored a creditable thirty nine points easily winning from Keith Williams on thirty six points with third going to Barry Pilgrim on thirty five points.

In B Grade Ken Upton also scored thirty nine points to edge out Mary Corcoran on thirty eight points with Keith Willis finishing third with thirty seven points.

The ball winners were Paul Sinnot, Tony Dal Corobbo, Terry Buckingham, Steven Clarke, George Mason, Lorie Rogers, Brian Young, Wayne Innes, Maurice Munro, Leonie Cramp, Noel Murray and Rob Arnold. Nearest the Pins were difficult. On the first it was Ken Upton, the seventh it was Steve Clarke and on the fourteenth it was Cath Remer. The fourth, ninth and eleven holes proved too difficult as no player was able to stay on the greens. The draw for the badge wearer was Steven Clarke.

Thank you to all the Robinvale staff for their part in organising the day.

Our next round will be held on Monday, October 3, at the Riverside Golf Club. It will also be a single Stableford event.

The nine hole Stableford on Friday needed a four way count back to determine the placings. Matt Anderson was declared the winner, Clint Babler, runner up, with Paul Wilkinson and Calum Winslow just missing out.

Pat Riordan must have taken a liking to Par, picking up another win in Saturday’s Par event for the Ladies, but not before a count back against Jan Hiscock, both on (-1).

Close behind on another excellent score, of (+4) was Oscar Mannix and Jake Cameron, with Oscar taking out the A Grade win and runner up going to Jake.
