If I win, I might stand aside

ONE of the candidates for Murray says if the seat becomes marginal and he is elected, he will stand aside.

Independent Greg Adamson said triggering a by-election through this move would be the best thing for the region.

“I think it’s highly unlikely, but on the off chance, I think it’s one worth being in the community’s mind,” Mr Adamson said.

He said a by-election would attract significant attention to the needs of the electorate.

“I’d like to see this region attract as much attention as it can to promote its importance in food security and what we do for our country,” Mr Adamson said.

“If the seat became a marginal seat and I was a successful candidate, the best thing I could actually do would be resign.”

He has criticised what he’s labelled a lack of “quality debate” during the Murray election campaign and said a by-election would allow the seat’s issues to be more thoroughly explored in the public eye.

“I could achieve more being successful and not running for our region for the long term than I could if I was to sell out for one party and have to try to work with them for a period of time,” he said.
