Sunraysia football: Wentworth’s Caleb Ernst rising above the pack

SAM Curran, the coach of the Wentworth football team, says young ruckman Caleb Ernst is “mature beyond his years”, and even the most brief of meetings leaves you walking away thinking: ‘Sixteen! He’s really only 16?’.

On the football field he moves with an effortless ease, bangs bodies with some guys twice his age and never takes a backward step while, as the coach also says, is still filling out his roughly 6’5” frame.

Six games into his senior career at the Roos and Ernst kicked his first goal against top-of-the-table Irymple at the weekend and greeted the moment with a been-there-done-that-type of muted celebration.
