Mildura City slay the Knights

MILDURA City showed why they sit undefeated in the S-League after a commanding 3-1 win over fierce rivals Irymple Knights on Sunday.

The top-of-the-table clash at Irymple didn’t disappoint with both teams showcasing their attacking prowess.

The first half saw the game in the balance, with Irymple’s Donald Jerry displaying his creativity in the middle of the park. The Knights had a golden opportunity to take the lead when they were awarded a penalty.

All eyes were on Chris Romeo as he stepped up to take the spot-kick, but unfortunately for Knights, Romeo’s shot was saved by City keeper, Dan Mosello, leaving the scoreline 0-0.

Mildura City’s relentless forward pressure eventually paid off just before the half-time whistle. They managed to find the back of the net twice in quick succession through Brandon Pollifrone and Nicolas Woods, seizing the momentum and taking a 2-0 lead.

The second half saw Mildura City take increasing control of the midfield through Tyler Rayson, dictating the pace and rhythm of the game. Their dominance was rewarded with a second goal to Woods, extending their lead to 3-0. Throughout the match, the City central defensive duo of Lukas Pedder and Jacob Rodi proved to be impenetrable pillars of strength, frustrating Knights’ attack.

The Knights did manage to salvage a consolation goal from a Kieran Burrows set play late in the game, but it was too little, too late.
