Kangas hop away

A FULL-strength Ouyen United Kangas were too much for Robinvale Euston out at Underbool on Saturday, claiming a 59-44 win.

The Kangas got the hop on the Eagles, leading by four goals at quarter-time, however, it was a supreme second quarter which the home side won 19-7 that set up the much-needed victory.

Ouyen United coach Kyra Nathan was pleased to be back on the winners’ list.

“We were a lot calmer and composed today,” she said.

“We showed a lot more discipline in defence and attack today than we have in previous weeks.”

For the first time this season, Ouyen United were able to get their well-established top seven players starting together, which gave Nathan a few more levers to pull.

“We were able to go to the structures that we know work,” she said.

“It was good to get the Cat Brown and Casey Crothers combination going in attack and Esther Manley and Tsharni Burns work so well together in defence.”

Young Kanga Maddi Plant made her A Grade debut after being a key cog in the B Grade over the past few seasons.

Generally a midcourter, Plant played in wing attack during the third term before shooting two goals in goal shooter to cap off her debut.

“She did well,” praised Nathan. “She settled in and the girls rallied around her.”

Robinvale Euston matched the Kangas well other than in the second quarter and won the last quarter in a resilient display.

Coach Georgia Giofrelle created a lot of opportunities from goal attack and tight-checking defender Shakaria Hingano was also in the Eagles’ best.
