Millewa netball teams plan ahead

CARDROSS will take the opportunity to refocus this Saturday against Bambill in their last game of the home-and-away Millewa A Grade netball season.

While it promises to be a well-contested match against the ladder-leading Saints, Lions playing coach Melissa Kennedy said her team would “take a breath and enjoy the last game of the season”, having secured their finals spot in fourth.

“We are pretty proud of where we are in comparison to last year to be making finals, so we are just going to use this weekend to keep working on our game play, and settle a little bit before the first week of finals,” she said.

“While we are not going into it with the mentality that the game doesn’t mean anything, because it always does, we also want to make sure we are fit and healthy for the next round.”

In an effort to keep her team at its best for finals, Kennedy will be resting Tamara Hamence and Charlotte McKendrick to ensure they are in top form next weekend.

Kennedy said that overall, the Lions were feeling good with their season and how they sit heading into the finals series.

“I think we have picked up a bit of momentum at the right time,” she said.

“We had a lot of midseason injuries and people away, and so the past couple of weeks have been good to actually have our full side, so we are definitely building momentum and we are really excited.”

In other games this Saturday, Gol Gol will host Werrimull, while Nangiloc will travel to Lake Cullulleraine to play Meringur.
