Club culture key to victories

MOLLY Mangan believes the key to Wentworth A Grade’s success over the past few seasons is the atmosphere created at the club.

The Roos have now accumulated 58 wins in a row, having not lost a game since their 2019 grand final match against Ouyen United.

While anyone who watches the Roos play can see that they are a well-drilled team with some sensational skill-levels, midcourter Mangan said she thinks their unbeatable stance stems from the bonded culture created within the club, and in particular her A Grade team.

“I think it is just our presence with each other, because we all get along quite well,” she said.

“When we turn up to training, we are excited to be there and to see each other, so I think it’s just that atmosphere around us girls.

“(The club is) encouraging and supportive, and especially the girls and the team, we’re just so close to one another and I think that’s what makes it enjoyable.

“I think that is what is behind us not losing.”

For Mangan, the focus this season has centred around is consistency, and making sure she fulfils her role as a “playmaker” in the midcourt.

Consistency will continue to be a focus for the team as a whole heading into finals, ensuring they continue their winning streak right up until the biggest match of the season.

“Given that we had a good win on the weekend (against Robinvale Euston), our heads are held high,” Mangan said.

“But we still have a job to do, so we won’t be lacking any focus.”

The Roos will need to maintain their focus during a bye this weekend, before taking on the winner of the qualifying final between Mildura and Irymple in the semi finals.

As the round 17 Netballer of the Round, Mangan receives $150 from Mildura Golf Resort.
