IT’S a long way to the top for the Meringur A Grade netball team but co-coach Bella Connell believes her squad is ready to start making that ascent.
The Kangaroos were a fair way off the pace last season finishing fifth with a 4-11 record, and three of those wins came against winless Gol Gol.
However, the coach has seen positive signs in the preseason and says her squad should not be taken lightly.
“We look very competitive and there’s a good connection throughout the side,” Connell, who will share the coaching duties with Susie Wilson, said.
“And everyone who is playing in the side is very versatile. We just missed out on finals last year, but I definitely think we have the drive to finish in the top four this year.
“We just have to be tactical against some of those better sides and even use some of our B graders for better match-ups in certain circumstances.
The team has been boosted in the shooting circle by the acquisition of shooters Emily Birch and Jess Tiller but a defender and new mid-courter could also have a huge influence on the team’s fortunes heading into season 2025.
“Madelyn McPhee is back after an ankle injury last year and she will bolster our defence and (recruit Chrissie) Villiva will provide a great boost as well.
“The girls are really looking forward to getting back on the court and showing what they can do.”
