Post-work social tennis serves off

SOCIAL tennis hits off this Friday night at the Mildura Lawn Tennis Club (MLTC).

The new initiative has been instigated by local tennis coach Bill Madafferi, who is hoping to get more people involved in the sport.

“Tennis is a great game and it’s one of those sports you can play your whole life,” Madafferi said.

“We aren’t playing for sheep stations.

“It’s just a great chance to have a hit of tennis and you can be as competitive or non-competitive as you want.

“We just want people out on court having a hit.”

Madaferri is encouraging players of all standards to go along to Friday night’s event, which hits off at 6pm.

“It doesn’t matter how old or young you are or how good you are, Friday night social tennis is all about getting out and having a go,” Madafferi said.

“What I’m hoping is it will get people back playing tennis and having a bit fun.

“I can’t think of a better way to spend a couple of hours after work on a Friday night than having a hit of tennis and enjoying the social side of it.

“There will be a barbecue and a few beverages after we finish so hopefully we can get plenty of junior and senior players along.

“This is really about getting as many people as we can to come along and enjoy the magnificent facilities at the MLTC.”

The format for Friday night’s competition will cater for players wanting to play singles or doubles.

Each player will play three sets of eight games and matches are expected to be completed no later than 7.30pm.

Anyone interested in playing can contact Madafferi on 0419 572 210 or just turn up on the night, no later than 5.45pm, so the draws can be finalised.
