Juniors to swing away in Red Cliffs

Red Cliffs Lawn Tennis Club’s annual junior tournament is on again this weekend.

Singles will be played tomorrow and doubles on Sunday and tournament co-ordinator Tena Williams said it was not too late to enter.

“We’re happy to take entries right up until Friday night,” she said.

Events will be round-robin, depending on amount of entries.

If the weather forecast is 38 degrees or above, the committee will shorten matches to enable play to finish by 2pm.

Williams said the tournament regularly attracted more than 100 children over the two days.

“Players come from places like Mildura, Ouyen and, of course, there are our local Red Cliffs kids,” she said.

“The competition caters to all skill levels. We start with A Grade, being the top juniors out there, right through to beginners and D Grade.

“The atmosphere is awesome. It’s a great event which gives kids the chance to play against other children in a competitive environment,” Williams said.

Entry is $10 per player and matches begin at 9am each day. Trophies and medallions will be awarded to the winners and runners-up.

Williams said the canteen would be open and the club would provide morning tea and lunch both days.
